Updates on Jackson Center Programs Dear Jackson Parents, Here's what we know about programs for this fall: Young 5's will have a remote start like our K-12 gen ed programs. This means that when students are in school they will spend 90 minutes daily doing live lessons with their teachers and teacher assistants, and have 90 additional minutes each day of at home learning resources. The week of Sept. 8, each child and a parent will be invited to the Young 5's classrooms to meet the teacher and assistants, see how the classroom works, and get a quick feel for school in general. Parents will also receive information regarding how the remote learning system will work. If needed, learning binders will be shared that have materials that parents can refer to for the at home learning time. The week of Sept. 14, students will begin their remote learning time. There will be no Young 5's child care while we are in a fully remote learning model. Teachers will be in touch with parents to invite them to their classroom experience by the end of the week of August 31. The Board of Ed. will make their next decisions about returning to face to face instruction near the end of September, but until that time remote learning will be in effect until the beginning of October. ECP/Moci/Talk It Up and preschool speech - all these special education programs will meet face to face starting Sept. 14 for shortened days. The week of Sept. 8, each child and a parent will be invited to the classroom to meet the teacher and the parapros, see how the classroom works and get a feel for school. Parents will also get to see how remote learning options will be implemented as part of the extended student day which will take place at home. The students will attend 2 hours days, 2 days per week in ECP and Moci, and Talk It Up and preschool speech will meet as usual. Teachers will be in touch with parents to begin to set up classroom visits by the end of the week of August 31. Parents in ECP and Moci will be receiving phone calls from us over the next few days to help us understand where you stand with having your child attend school. Please remember that if you want to choose the LPS Virtual option for your child, you must register on the LPS website by 12:00pm (noon) tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12. If you commit to LPS Virtual, you are committing to that program through the beginning of December, which is the end of the first trimester in LPS. When the Board of Ed makes further decisions about having kids in gen. ed. classrooms return to face to face instruction, our director of student services will also give us further guidance on increasing the time/days that students attend face to face instruction in ECP and Moci. Jackson Child Care - we will be offering child care to our returning families on a limited basis this fall. The State of Michigan has suggested smaller class sizes as students return to school, similar to how we have run our child care this summer. Parents who had children actively in care when schools closed last March should be receiving emails from us to inquire about the need for care this fall. Child care will take a break during the week of August 31 so we can provide professional development to staff and get our rooms ready for care, and will then resume care on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Jackson Preschool Enrichment - we will be providing the opportunity for families to bring their preschool children to preschool enrichment classes this fall. These classes will also start the week of Sept. 14. Parents who turned in program request forms at our orientation meeting in February will be receiving emails from us to inquire about their desire for preschool enrichment, and these emails are going out over the next 2-3 days. As we continue to work through the details, parents who have indicated interest in our programs will receive email updates from us regarding how to register or complete registration, our policies, etc. As we have done during our summer child care program, children under age 2 will not be required to wear masks while in care. Children ages 2-4 will be encouraged to wear masks in the classroom, and will have to wear masks in common areas such as hallways. Children aged 4 and over will need to wear masks in classrooms and other common spaces, unless the child's family provides us with a note from a physician stating the child is unable to wear a mask.
